Nationals 2014 - Day 1

17u Girls prior to opening ceremonies
And there off...The morning started with opening ceremonies at 9:00am meanwhile the 16u boys were playing their first game in the Western Championship, which they lost to BC in a tough, hard fought battle by five 73-68. They play the Yukon tomorrow afternoon, July 26 at 1:30pm.

At 11:15am the 15u boys played their first game against PEI and came away with a convincing 106-49 win. PEI hung around and played tough but the 15u boys were able to create a number of turnovers and get out in transition. They will round out their pool play tomorrow (July 26) at 1:30pm vs. Saskatchewan.

The 15u girls opened their tournament in the #2 vs. #3 game vs. Quebec. The girls came out to a very fast start jumping out to an early 7-2 lead and held onto a 15-14 lead after the first quarter. Quebec was then able to put pressure on the offensive glass and started to pull away. The final score was 72-46 in favour of Quebec. The 15u girls will now take on Saskatchewan at 11:15am tomorrow (July 26) for 3rd place heading into the playoff round.

The 17u girls tipped off against PEI at 8:15pm and came away with a 68-50 win. The girls put in another great team effort and now look to take that momentum into tomorrows matchup against Quebec at 1:30pm. The winner will determine who enters the playoff round as the 5th seed.

The 17u boys got off to a good start as well, beating the host Alberta by a final score of 80-69. Another nice team effort which showcased a game of runs by both teams with the Nova Scotia boys able to sustain the pace for longer than their counter parts from Alberta. The boys play PEI to finish off their pool play tomorrow at 3:45pm.
