Accountability and Ownership
After a quick turn around from last weekend's trip to Saskatchewan we were back on the road to the 1st Annuall Rod Classic at Brock University. We had a frustrating weekend losing all 3 matchups. Friday night to the host Brock Badgers, Saturday afternoon to the Laurentian Voyageurs and finally to the Saskatchewan Huskies 83-81.
The weekend showcased our young talent playing prominent roles and delivering on a consistent basis. Without Owen Klassen, who was away with the national team, and Anthony Sears (ankle injury) the opportunity was there for others to step up. Tyler Scott was among them, a first year out of Halifax West, Tyler had our most impressive weekend scoring over 20 in the last two games, with a 28 point 6 rebound effort against Saskatchewan.
Notwithstanding the W-L columns, the pre-season has been successful for us from a developmental standpoint. We have relied on a lot of young players to carry the load. This should only benefit us down the stretch when we will rely on these young guys in key moments.
Our execution level is not where it needs to be and was showcased all weekend long when we needed a big defensive stop or a good shot on offense. There was a lot of uncertainty of how we were going to get the stop or where we were going to get the shot, which often lead to a defensive breakdown or a poor shot on offense.
We need to be accountable for our responsibilities and take ownership when we do not complete the task we were assigned.
We now have a week and a half before we tip off the regular season at Dalhousie Nov. 9.
