Congratulations goes out to team Ontario for winning the gold metal last night with a 14 point victory over Nova Scotia.
It was a great effort by our boys from Scotia and we hung around until the final few minutes of the game. Rebounding was ultimately pitfall as Ontario out-rebounding us 63-32, lead by Marko Pirovic who had an impressive 26 rebounds on the game.
The big question going in, could Nova Scotia extend their defense and apply full court pressure against this big athletic Ontario team. The answer was yes, we were able to apply our pressure and cause a lot of problems in the backcourt and forced a number of turnovers. Travis Adams was again very solid but was plague with foul trouble all game long and forced to sit for extended minutes. Taurus Smith came of the bench and provided his scoring punch keeping us in the game for the first half scoring 15 points for the game. AJ Simmonds had a team high 19 points.
Contratulations to Travis Adams (first team all-star) and Jayden Nordin (second team all-star) for being named to the all-star teams.
These young men from Nova Scotia represented their province with pride and class all week long. I, along with the rest of the coaching staff were extremely proud and fortunate to coach these guys all summer long. Although there is a sour taste after the lost to Ontario, this will be a memory that we will all cherish forever and we'll look back and realize what we were able to accomplish on a very big stage.
Our flight departs at 5:45pm this afternoon and we return to Nova Scotia as Silver Medalists. Congratulations Nova Scotia!
Thanks to all the parents, friends, basketball supporters for all the encouragement this week, this isn't the last you have seen of these young basketball players.
