The past two days I have been taking part in staff training for Camp Catapult. This will be the third year for the camp. Based out of Acadia university, the camp services students from all across Nova Scotia who are entering high school. The idea is to capture potential leaders and "catapult" them onwards to become our leaders of tomorrow. Each student has been nominated by one of their teachers who recognizes skills in them to be a leader.
I have taken part in this camp since it began in 2009. This year I will assume the role of head counselor and am very much looking forward to working with the staff, speakers and all the campers.
Preparations are near their completion, as the campers will arrive tomorrow afternoon beginning at 2:30pm. The staff is comprised of University students from across Nova Scotia as well, 7 counselors and 2 junior counselors. The camp offers a wide range of programming brought from village camps located in Switzerland and Austria. It is a very powerful week and much is gained from the students and staff who are fortunate to be involved.
