Development at the Bluenose

The 2011 Bluenose Classic was by and large a huge success. The Canada Games complex was a wonderful venue to hold the event and created a buzz of basketball all weekend long.

Development is the word that comes to mind when summer basketball is the topic of discussion. Great players are made in the off-season, it is a chance to focus on weaknesses, further improve strengths and transform your body to be stronger, faster and quicker.

The Bluenose included this piece of development to the fullest from coaches to players and officials. Teams from all over the Maritimes and even a couple from Ottawa were in action to compete and develop their athletes.

A major piece included to the tournament this year was the evaluation of the officials. Each game included an evaluator on the side line providing an enhanced environment for the tournament. Each official was being held accountable and given instant feedback during timeouts, halftimes and other stoppages.  These officials were at the top of their game and it made for clean, hard-nosed basketball.

All the teams that competed got their money’s worth of games and a competitive schedule. It was wonderful to see the number of spectators who came out to support and be treated to a great weekend of basketball.

Great job by Basketball Nova Scotia and look forward to Bluenose 2012.
