2. Make a read
3. Finish the play
NOTE:
- DHO - run past the DHO if it is denied and then come back to a ball screen or hand back.
win the foot race to the paint, if the defender goes under, the ball handler has to try and get into the paint in a hurry and beat their defender to that spot. This will put a lot of pressure on the defense and get us a shot at the rim or an advantage somewhere else. We can also try and set the screen as low as possible so that gives the ball handler the chance to be shoot it on top of the screen. Re-screen is another good option.
Ball Screen vs. Deep drop:
Gortat seal, have the big get to the seal their big if they are dropping to the rim (aka snake seal), tius is good at this for the Celtics., if you can get behind the big to be a lob threat. This allows the guard to get to the rim while the shot blocker is sealed off by the rolling big.
The key is for the guard to be patient and slow coming off.. any time that the guard is behind you, slow down as a guard and make a read, if the guard is to quick coming off, the big doesn't have time to seal his man at the rim to open the lay up.
Ball screen vs. show/blitz:
First thing we tell the guard is to attack the bigs top foot and try to get around him to the basket. The guard wants to be able to pop out a big and drag the screen as much as possible to create space for the roll and put pressure on the defense, where does the help come from? If you no one helps, you can hit the big and then if someone else helps, hit that guys man. You have to decide what you want to do if you hit the big rolling and how you want to space and if you want to slash cut from the 2 side. FOR THE BIG: as soon as you see your defender get above you and is now "two on the ball" roll/slip to the basket immediately, put pressure on the defense to bring someone to you. Coaches you have to think about giving rules during these actions so guys don't do things that they think are helping the team but are really just selfish plays. always trying to find out "where is our advantage."
Ball screen vs. switch:
If you can get the big on the roll with two feet in the paint, then you can give it to him, if they don't get that, then the big spaces to the dunker spot. The spacing should be Corner / Dunker / Corner / 45 for the other 4 guys when the PG bounces out and looks to attack the big. The boomerang pass
Any time that they get into ice coverage and the defender guarding the ball switches their feet and is no longer square the big screener should slip to the basket, the advantage has already been created. The pg can reverse the ball (next closest guy) and then bounce out to create separation to be able to attack downhill at big with pull up three or get to the basket ability.
